All schools and colleges in Navi Mumbai have been directed to conduct third-party safety audits and submit report findings to their respective local police stations, as part of an intensified effort to ensure student safety. This instruction was issued during a review meeting organized by the Navi Mumbai Police on Monday, with participation from over 149 educational institutions under Zone I.

Held at the Marathi Sahitya Sanskruti and Kala Mandal auditorium in Vashi, the meeting was led by Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone I) Pankaj Dahane. He reviewed the current security measures in place at schools and colleges and stressed the need for strict implementation of the Maharashtra Government’s circular aimed at protecting students—especially from incidents of sexual harassment.

The circular outlines specific safety protocols that educational institutions must follow, including preventive measures, staff background checks, and the installation of surveillance systems. Dahane emphasized the need for stronger coordination between school management committees and local police stations to ensure the guidelines are not just followed, but enforced effectively.

Officials also discussed ways to educate and sensitize school staff and students on identifying and reporting abuse. “Educational institutions must not only adopt these measures but actively work with local law enforcement to keep children safe,” said Dahane.

The meeting was attended by principals, headmasters, and administrators from schools and colleges, along with Assistant Commissioners of Police from the Vashi and Turbhe divisions and senior inspectors from all 10 police stations under Zone I.  A total of 149 principals, headmasters, and Administrators from schools and colleges in Zone I attended the meeting

The move came after a recent case of abuse that was reported on a 4 year old boy from a CBSE School based in Seawoods.
