The Navi Mumbai International Airport received its first commercial flight which landed successfully on Sunday (December 29). An A320 aircraft of Indigo Airlines took off from Mumbai and landed on 08/26 runway of the Navi Mumbai airport.

Those present near the Runway 8/26 cheered as the plane landed successfully.

The aircraft was given a water salute.

“This is a momentous day for Navi Mumbai International Airport. The successful completion of the validation flight is a major milestone, and we are now one step closer to operationalising the airport, prioritising safety at every step. We are grateful to the DGCA and all the agencies involved in making the validation flight trial successful. NMIA will not only offer world-class aviation facilities, it will also enable the overall development of the region,” said Arun Bansal, Chief Executive Officer, Adani Airport Holdings Limited.

Senior officials from Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), Airports Authority of India (AAI), Customs, Immigration, CISF, CIDCO, IMD, BCAS, as well as Adani Airport Holdings Limited (AAHL) and others were present at the airport when the plane landed.

Airport To Be Inaugurated On April 17

The Navi Mumbai International Airport (NMIA) will be inaugurated on April 7, 2025 but domestic flights will begin in second month of May.

The airport in Navi Mumbai is expected to ease the traffic at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport. In addition to this, it is also expected to give a major boost to Navi Mumbai region with increased connectivity and development.
