The Navi Mumbai Congress party has expressed its objection to the pricing of the apartments built under – My preferred CIDCO scheme. CIDCO recently announced the prices of apartments it constructed in areas like Kharghar, Taloja and Vashi.
The announcement made on January 8 declared that the apartments are priced between Rs 25 lakh and 1 crore.
“Excluding the apartments constructed near juinagar railway station, the pricing of all other apartments are at par with the housing projects by private builders. These apartments are priced between ₹25 lakh and ₹1 crore. Until now, the prices of apartments constructed by CIDCO have been affordable and within reach of the common man. However, looking at the current prices, it seems impossible for the lower-income, lower-middle-income, and even middle-income groups to purchase these apartments,” said Nerul Taluka Congress Chairman, Ravindra Sawant.
CIDCO is alleged to have shifted towards profit making as against providing affordable housing to common man. Accordingly, the urban development department is being asked to instruct CIDCo to reconsider the prices. “If CIDCO’s sole intention is to make money, then we, the Congress party workers and office bearers, will take to the streets of Navi Mumbai and collect funds for CIDCO by begging from the common people CIDCO has appointed a private company for the sale of flats and has paid them a fee worth several crores. We suspect that to recover this fee, CIDCO has set exorbitant prices,” adds Sawant.
A public agitation is set to be launched in front of CIDCO headquarters by the congress party if the pricing is not revised.
Meanwhile on X app netizens have labelled CIDCO to be greedy by charging registration fees even before the flat pricing was declared. “ Each registration CIDCO has charged RS 1000, so those who now finds the scheme unaffordable has lost even the registration amount, this is nothing but pure greed,” said a user
