Mumbai: The Navghar Police have filed a case against the deceased driver in connection with an accident involving a speeding dumper on the Eastern Express Highway. The deceased driver has been identified as Naushad Ahmed Khan (34).
According to a complaint registered by Police Constable Rohidas Gavit on behalf of the government, the accident occurred around 1 AM on May 28 near the Hari Om Junction. Naushad, a resident of the Tar Bazaar area on the Kurla-Andheri Road, was driving a dumper loaded with garbage and silt. He left Kurla around 12:15 AM to transport the load to the Hari Om Nagar dumping ground in Mulund East for weighing.
While driving at high speed, Naushad lost control of the dumper, which collided with a road divider and overturned. During the accident, Naushad was thrown out of the vehicle and buried under the garbage and silt. He was rendered unconscious. Upon receiving information about the incident, the Navghar Police rushed to the spot, rescued the unconscious Naushad, and admitted him to the Veer Savarkar Hospital in Mulund. However, doctors declared him dead upon arrival.
The dumper’s cleaner, Amitkumar Maurya (30), narrowly escaped the accident. Initially, the police registered a case of accidental death and began an investigation. During the inquiry, it was revealed that Naushad had been driving the dumper at an excessively high speed and in a negligent manner, leading to the collision with the divider and ultimately causing his own death. As a result, the police have registered a case against the deceased Naushad.
