Nashik’s Jindal Company Fire Smoulders For Third Day; LPG Tank Poses Explosion Risk, Area Evacuated (PHOTOS) | Tejal Ghorpade

The massive fire that broke out at Jindal Polyfilms Company on the Nashik-Mumbai Highway at 1am on Wednesday (May 21) has not been completely contained for the third day, and is still smoldering. Although the administration has made tireless efforts to extinguish the fire, the fire has flared up again due to flammable materials and raw materials in the company.

On Wednesday morning, the fire seemed to have been contained to some extent, but as soon as evening came, the flames flared up again. The fire has regained its strength since Thursday morning, and large plumes of smoke are rising towards the sky everywhere in the area.

To control the fire, 30 to 40 fire brigades from Nashik, Thane, Mumbai, Malegaon Municipal Corporation and other municipalities have reached the spot. Efforts are being made to extinguish the fire using water and foam.

Meanwhile, the LPG tank in the company premises has created a risk of a major explosion. If this tank bursts, there is a fear of major loss of life in an area of 15 to 20 kilometres. Therefore, the district administration has ordered immediate evacuation of the area. Citizens living in the company area have fled to a safe place in fear.

An entire plant of the Jindal Company has been engulfed in fire. Since there is not enough water available in the company to extinguish the fire, water is being demanded from other companies as well.

Pradeep Borse, Fire Officer-in-Charge of Nashik Municipal Corporation, said that efforts are being made to control the temperature by continuously spraying water and foam on the LPG tank to prevent it from rising. If this tank catches fire, there is a possibility of a major explosion and a serious disaster.

It is understood that two workers were injured in the fire. As the fire continues to burn for the third day, strenuous efforts are being made to bring the fire under control.
