Alon Musk alleged – SpaceX could defend 6 months ago
Elon Musk said on the social media platform X (first Twitter) that SpaceX could return Sunita Williams and Buch Wilmor by sending another dragon capsule 6 months ago. But the Biden administration did not approve the mission. He says that both astronauts had to stay on ISS for only 8 days, but now they have been stranded there for 8 months.
NASA clarified, assured to return soon
NASA has said in a statement that they are working to ensure both astronauts as soon as possible. The space agency reported that his return had to be postponed due to technical malfunctions in Boeing’s Starlineer capsules. They will be brought back to Earth as soon as the situation is normal.
Donald Trump also demanded Sunita’s return
Former US President Donald Trump has also intervened in the matter. He asked Elon Musk to ensure the immediate return of both astronauts. Trump accused the Biden administration that he left these brave astronauts in space. According to Trump, they have been waiting there for the last several months and now they should be brought back immediately.
The astronauts were only supposed to be up there for 8 days and now have been there 8 months.

Why Sunita Williams and Buch Villmore are trapped after all?
Sunita Williams and Buch Wilmore started a space journey in June 2024 via Boeing’s Starlineer Capsule. Under this mission, he had to spend only 8 days on ISS. But his return stopped due to technical faults.
Problems in Starlineer:
- Helium leakage – Helium leak problem was found in Starlineer Capsule.
- Threster malfunctions – The engine’s thruster system occurred technical disturbances, making it unsafe for return.

Now that Trump and Musk are giving priority to this mission, it is expected that SpaceX will soon take steps to bring Sunita Williams and Buch Wilmor back to Earth. NASA is also monitoring this mission, so that there is no risk.
