PM Modi wrote on the social media platform x, “Talked to Myanmar’s Senior General Min Aung Having. Expressed deep condolences to the loss of life in the devastating earthquake. India stands firmly with the people of Myanmar in this difficult time as a close friend and neighbor.”
Why did this devastating earthquake come?
According to geologists, the earthquake occurred due to the movement in a large crack of land called ‘Sagiing Fault’. The huge tectonic plates of our earth continue to move. Here the Indian plate is hitting the Eurasian plate, sliding north, due to which the area is very sensitive to earthquake. Experts also reported that because the epicenter of the earthquake was very close to the land surface (shallow depth), its ability to destroy it was much more.
Rescue work continues, number of dead may increase
Government officials and rescue teams are constantly working to evacuate people under the rubble and help the injured. However, officials have feared that many people may still be stranded under the rubble, which may further increase the death toll. Thousands of people have become homeless and are forced to live under the open sky. Relief and rescue operations are going on fast, but the measure of destruction is so large that it will take a long time to restore normal conditions.
