Mumbai: The University of Mumbai’s Jamnalal Bajaj Institute of Management Studies (JBIMS), one of India’s premier management institutes, is set to celebrate its Diamond Jubilee on April 5 and 6 at the Sir Cowasji Jehanghier Convocation Hall.

The event will mark 60 years of excellence in management education and will witness participation from eminent alumni, industry leaders, and academic stalwarts.

Established in 1965, JBIMS has played a pivotal role in shaping India’s corporate landscape, earning the reputation of being a ‘CEO Factory’. The Diamond Jubilee celebrations will honour the institution’s legacy while providing a platform for discussions on future industry trends, leadership, and skills development.

The inaugural session on April 5 will be attended by Chandrakant Patil, Minister for Higher and Technical Education, Ashish Shelar, Minister for Culture and IT, and renowned industrialists Shekhar Bajaj and Ajay Piramal. The event will also feature Prof. Ravindra Kulkarni, Vice Chancellor of the University of Mumbai, and Prof. Kavita Laghate, Director of JBIMS, along with prominent alumni, faculty members, and students.

A plenary session themed ‘Vision 2040 – Preparing Leaders for the Future’ will follow, featuring distinguished speakers such as Anil Swarup (Former Secretary, Government of India), Sam Balsara (Batch 1972), Vinita Bali (Batch 1977), and Anand Rathi (Founder, Anand Rathi Group, confirmation awaited).

Later in the afternoon, a round-table discussion on ‘Bridging the Gap: Industry Expectations from Management Institutes’ will see participation from leading business executives, including Sanjeeb Chaudhuri (Chairman, IDFC Bank), Ashwini Malhotra (Managing Director, Weikfield Foods), Deependra Nigam (Managing Director, ZodiaAC Executive Search), and Sanjay Ubale (Former CEO, Tata Projects).

The evening session, ‘Eternal Foundations: Honouring Legacy’, will pay tribute to Dr. Kalyanasundaram Basu, the first Director of JBIMS. Alumni from the institute’s early batches, including Prem Mehta (Batch 1967), Steven Pinto, Prakash Munshi, Nandkishor Kagliwal, Dr. Vijay Page, Dr. Rajan Mehrotra, Francis D’Cunha, and Dr. Harish Bhimani, will share insights into the institute’s formative years and Dr. Basu’s contributions.

On April 6, the ‘Alumni Wisdom Talk’ will feature accomplished JBIMS graduates sharing industry insights and career lessons. Speakers include Vinita Bali (Leadership & Global Perspective), Paresh Sukthankar (Banking), Ruzbeh Irani (Human Resources & Leadership), Swati Dalal (Pharmaceuticals), Rashmi Sen (Retail Sector), Siddharth Roy Kapur (Movie Entertainment), Clifford Patrao (Artificial Intelligence & Technology), Amit Haware (Affordable Housing), and Ankit Vajani (Hospitality Industry).

The event will conclude with a Valedictory Function, which includes the launch of the book ‘Gandharva – A Methane Yatra’ by Commander Prasad Padhye (Batch 2009-2012), followed by remarks from Prof. Kavita Laghate, Director, JBIMS, and Prof. Ravindra Kulkarni, Vice Chancellor, University of Mumbai.

On this occasion, Prof. Kavita Laghate stated that JBIMS remains committed to excellence in management education and equipping students with the skills needed for success in global markets. She further announced that the Diamond Jubilee celebrations will extend throughout the year, featuring workshops, panel discussions, alumni reunions, and industry networking events.
