Murshidabad violence: Curfew and internet closed in the affected areas under control

The situation was peaceful on Monday in violence affected areas of Murshidabad district of West Bengal – Suti, Shamsherganj, Dhulian and Jangipur. A senior police officer said that the situation is currently under control and no new violent incident has come to light.

Strict monitoring on violence, Section 163 implemented
Prohibition is applicable in these areas under Section 163 of the Indian Civil Protection Code (BNSS), due to which roads remained deserted and shops remained closed. Internet services have been discontinued in view of security. Police and security forces are investigating vehicles on the main roads.

Three people died in violence so far, 180 arrested
On Friday afternoon, three people have lost their lives in the violence erupted on Friday afternoon, while many others have been injured. This violence began after protests against the Waqf (Amendment) Act. According to officials, 180 people have been arrested by Saturday.

BSF and RAF flag march
The police officer said that the situation in disturbed areas and surrounding areas is completely peaceful and under control. BSF, State Armed Police and Rapid Action Force (RAF) have conducted flag marches in national highways and streets in these areas. No one will be allowed to spoil law and order.

Policeman injured in violence, property damage
At least 18 policemen have been injured in the clashes, whose treatment is going on in various hospitals. During the violence, police vans and other vehicles were set on fire, stoned on security forces, shops were vandalized and police booths were also burnt.

People took refuge by crossing the river, relief system of administration
Hundreds of people have crossed the Bhagirathi river and took refuge in Malda district to avoid violence. The local administration has set up relief camps for riot-affected families, where food and drink have been made. These families are currently given temporary shelter in schools.

The situation is constantly being monitored in Murshidabad and the administration is ready to deal with any situation.
