Mumbaikars Welcome 2025 With Grand Fireworks Celebrations At Marine Drive Despite Police Ban; Visuals Surface

Mumbai: As the New Year dawned, cities across the globe erupted in dazzling fireworks displays, and Mumbai was no exception. Iconic spots like Juhu Beach, Chowpatty Beach, Versova Beach and Marine Drive were thronged with revellers soaking in the festive spirit.

At Marine Drive, crowds gathered in massive numbers to witness the midnight fireworks, cheering in joy and capturing the spectacle on their phones. A video shared on X by ANI showcased the jubilant mob celebrating at the Queen’s Necklace as fireworks lit up the sky.

Mumbai Police’s Strict Ban On Fireworks At Marine Drive

However, this enthusiastic display came at the expense of city regulations. Mumbai Police had imposed strict bans on fireworks and loud music at prominent public spots, including Marine Drive and Gateway of India, in light of safety and noise concerns. To enforce these restrictions, heavy police deployment was planned across these areas.

The guidelines were introduced to address fire hazards posed by firecrackers and flame lanterns, particularly in densely populated areas with residential buildings. Loud music, another focal point of the ban, was flagged for its potential to disturb residents and contribute to noise pollution. Mumbai Police had urged citizens to celebrate responsibly, stressing that the rules were in place for public safety and harmony.

Ban On Boat Parties Off Mumbai Coast

Adding to the restrictions, boat parties along Mumbai’s coastal waters were also prohibited this New Year’s Eve. During a meeting with the Bombay Port Trust (BPT) and Mumbai Port Trust (MPT), senior police officials decided on continuous patrolling of the city’s coastal zones to prevent unauthorized gatherings on boats. Violators were warned of strict action.

Despite these efforts, the midnight celebrations at Marine Drive seemed to defy the guidelines. Fireworks lit up the sky as crowds ignored the bans, prioritising joy over rules. While Mumbai Police’s appeals for responsible celebrations sought to balance festivity and safety, the revelry at Marine Drive highlighted the city’s uncontainable enthusiasm for ringing in the New Year.
