Mumbai: Mumbai police is undertaking efforts to tie up with major banks to ensure that the money lost to cybercrime is timely freezed and reversed, helping in faster detection of crime, said Mumbai Police commissioner Vivek Phansalkar.
Phansalkar was speaking at the felicitation event hosted by Chamber of Commerce and Industry (IMC) for the Mumbai Police personnel. The fifth edition of IMC Awards honoured the police personnel for their outstanding public service during the year 2024-25.

Police personnel serving in the city were felicitated through this initiative for their commendable service in 11 different categories including crime detection, recovery, cybercrime, curbing crime against women, public service and social security among others.
Mumbai CP Phansalkar attended the event as the chief guest along with special CP Deven Bharti and other senior police officials. While addressing the gathering, Phansalkar said that Mumbai Police is going very aggressively against cybercrimes and narcotics but needs citizens’ assistance to curb them.

He announced that the commissionerate recovered Rs 206 crores of money lost to cybercrime in the previous year and is now tying up with major banks, which collectively have over one crore accounts, to freeze the money lost to cybercrime at the earliest.
Similarly, Phansalkar said that the police force is going till the routes of drug manufacturing but can stop the supply easily if the demand is reduced. He said that citizens need to be vigilant and ensure that their dear ones are not falling prey to drug abuse.

“Each of the 52,000 police personnel is doing a great job at their end. We often call some crimes as petty crimes but each of them is important for us to solve as our aim is to stop petty criminals from executing bigger crimes. However, a lot of crimes can be prevented with awareness among people and we are constantly working to spread awareness among people about prevention of crime,” said Phansalkar.

The ‘IMC Awards for Mumbai Police Personnel for Outstanding Public Service 2024-25’ were conferred to 115 policemen, including three female officer, for their selfless and courageous deeds while on line of duty. The awardees were presented trophies and citation for recognition of their hardwork and handed over a cheque of Rs 1 lakh each. The award was instituted in 2016 in consultation with the then police commissioner, Dattatray Padsalgikar.
