Mumbai police have launched a manhunt for a man accused of blackmailing a woman with obscene videos and extorting ₹10 lakh from her. The N.M. Joshi Marg police have registered a case of extortion and sexual assault against the accused based on the woman’s complaint.

According to the police, the victim, an employee at a private company, first met the accused in 2023. Their acquaintance began on February 16, 2023, when they shared a ride in a private taxi. Over time, the accused attempted to get closer to her. On March 23, 2023, he allegedly spiked the woman’s fruit juice with a sedative and sexually assaulted her in a building in the N.M. Joshi Marg area. During the assault, he secretly recorded obscene videos and took explicit photographs of the woman.

Following the incident, the accused repeatedly assaulted the woman and threatened to harm her child. Using the explicit content as leverage, he extorted ₹10 lakh from her. Later, he allegedly shared the obscene videos and images in multiple adult groups on Facebook.

When the victim discovered this, she initially filed a complaint at the Worli police station. The Worli police registered a case under sections 308(2), 351(2), 356(2), 64, and 64(2)(M) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and later transferred it to the N.M. Joshi Marg police station for further investigation.

The police have identified the accused as a resident of Kharghar in Navi Mumbai and are actively searching for him.
