Mumbai, January 26: In the case of Bollywood actor Saif Ali Khan’s stabbing, the Mumbai police have denied a media report claiming that the fingerprints of the accused did not match. Satyanarayan Chaudhary, Joint Commissioner of Police, Law and Order, stated that the report regarding the fingerprints not matching the accused is “not true.”
A section of the media has raised doubts about whether the Mumbai police arrested the correct person. A news report claimed that the fingerprints of the arrested accused, Shariful Islam, 30, did not match the fingerprints collected from the actor’s residence.
Meanwhile, Dixit Gedam, Deputy Commissioner of Police, Zone-9, stated, “The fingerprint report is yet to come,” and denied the claim. However, the initial report had indicated that the fingerprints did match.
A CID officer commented, “The case is being investigated by the Mumbai police, and you must check with them. The report has been sent to the Mumbai police forensic lab.”
The Bandra police collected around 20 fingerprints from the actor’s residence, ‘Satguru Sharan,’ located in Bandra West, following the incident. The incident occurred on January 16, and the accused was arrested on January 19 in Thane. After the arrest, the police took Shariful Islam’s fingerprints, and both sets were sent to the forensic lab for comparison. The police are awaiting the fingerprint report, along with blood match reports. The police also collected the actor’s blood and bloodstained clothing from the accused, both of which were sent to the forensic lab.
Meanwhile, a police team has travelled to Kolkata to investigate how Shariful obtained a SIM card there using the documentation of an Indian national. The police are also investigating how the accused obtained the weapon, and a facial recognition test is still pending. The accused remains in police custody until January 29.
