Manmad (Maharashtra): The Mumbai-Nanded Tapovan Express reversed for approximately 700 metres on Saturday, January 4 2025, to rescue a passenger who had fallen off near Manmad junction. The passenger, identified as 30-year-old Sarvar Shaikh from Uttar Pradesh, was severely injured and later succumbed to his injuries at a hospital.

Details Of The Incident

According to a Times of India report, Divisional Railway Manager Iti Pandey confirmed that the train’s loco pilot, MS Alam, sought permission from the controller to reverse the train and retrieve the injured passenger. The incident came to light around 11 am when the emergency chain was pulled by someone, forcing the train to stop. Guard SS Kadam, informed by passengers about the mishap, coordinated with the loco pilot to reverse the train.

Goods Train Halted For Rescue Operations

In a rare and swift response, a goods train following the Tapovan Express was halted at a prior station to allow the rescue operation. Passengers found Shaikh, who had fallen from the third coach and assisted him back onto the train.

Passenger Succumbed To His Injuries Later

The Tapovan Express then continued to Manmad station, where railway authorities arranged an ambulance to transport Shaikh to a nearby hospital. Despite prompt efforts, Shaikh succumbed to his injuries during treatment. The train resumed its journey to Nanded after the incident.

In a similar incident reported recently in Mumbai, Mohan Golap, a 24-year-old resident of Chembur, lost his life after falling from a local train near Wadala railway station. Golap, employed at Indigo Press in Cotton Green, was travelling with his friend Nikhil Bansode from Cotton Green to Chembur.

On January 1, around 8:40 pm, as the train departed Wadala station, Golap was standing near the door. While crossing the Wadala bridge, he accidentally struck a pole near the tracks and fell from the moving train.

Passengers, along with his friend Nikhil, quickly noticed the accident and pulled the emergency chain to stop the train. Railway police arrived at the scene and found Golap with severe head injuries. Unfortunately, he was declared dead on the spot.
