Immediate rescue operation started
Constables Amol Maruti Sawant, Vikas Ghosh and Arun Singh were patrolling just 4-5 kilometers away from the accident site and were headed towards Jawahar Deep Island. On receiving an SOS call from the CISF control room, Constable Sawant immediately returned his patrol boat and reached the location of the overturned boat. The first person we rescued was a three-year-old child. Our priority was to save all the children and we managed to save them, although unfortunately one child died in the accident, I do not know the exact age of the child.
Sawant further said that after seeing the horrific scene, people were screaming, passengers panicked and sought help. Although our patrol boat has a capacity of 15 passengers, the team took 25-30 people into the boat in case of emergency to save lives. The rescued people were immediately transferred to JNPT boats passing through the area.
gave CPR to people
Most of the rescued passengers were unconscious and we gave them CPR before transferring them to another boat, which took them to a hospital at JNPT, Sawant said. When we rescued 30-35 passengers, rescue teams from the Navy, Coast Guard and Mumbai Police arrived to provide additional assistance and then a large number of people were rescued.
