Mumbai: A 14-year-old girl from Goregaon East in Mumbai, who was reported missing last week, was successfully rescued from Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh, by the Vanrai police. The teenager, a class IX student from a well-known school, had gone missing under mysterious circumstances. She was reportedly kidnapped after she followed instructions given by an unknown person during what she believed was a task in an online game.
Girl Came In Contact Of 18-Year-Old Suspect Through Online Mobile Game
According to police officials, the girl had been living alone during the day as both her parents worked full-time. Three months ago, while playing an online mobile game, she came into contact with an 18-year-old boy from Varanasi, reported the Times of India.
Over time, he allegedly manipulated her through the game by assigning her a series of tasks. The final task recently instructed her to reach an isolated location in Goregaon East alone, which she did, leading to her disappearance.
Parents Reached Cops As Girl Didn’t Reach Home
When the girl failed to return home, her worried parents filed a missing person complaint at the Vanrai police station. The case was quickly treated as a suspected kidnapping. Cops launched a detailed technical probe, which included scrutinising her mobile phone data, communication logs and online activity.
Girl Traced In Varanasi, Suspect Absconding
Their efforts eventually traced the girl’s location to Varanasi, where she was found safe. Meanwhile, the 18-year-old suspect believed to be involved in the kidnapping is currently being searched for. Cops suspect that he used the pretext of a game to gain the girl’s trust and lure her away from her home. His precise role and intentions are under investigation.
