Mumbai: A woman from Mulund named Jinsha Sheth claimed on X on February 23 that she is facing difficulties in reclaiming her home after it was demolished for redevelopment by the Panchal builder. It has been over 10 years, and she has been paying rent throughout this period.
The Jinsha used to live in Usha Apartments in Mulund, which was demolished to make way for a 22-floor tower. However, the project has since been abandoned, and only five floors have been completed.
A Post Made by Jinsha Sheth on X
In her post, she highlighted, “Rental payments stopped, and residents were left stranded. The society filed and won a court case to reclaim the project, but now we are facing demands for bribes from the police, BMC, and local corporators to demolish and start new construction.”
She added in a comment, “It is terrifying to see the plight of everyone, including my parents, who have nothing but endless waiting to move back into their own homes.”
Reaction of the Other Mumbaikars
Reactions from other Mumbaikars on X included comments like, “It’s the same situation everywhere. If they don’t pay rent, what can you do? Once rent stops, you can’t go to RERA; you have to hire a lawyer and go to Bombay High Court.”

Some commenters asked her, “Why not name the builder? Why keep their identity hidden?”
In response, she said, “Panchal Builder—I didn’t name him in the original post as he is now irrelevant after the court case, but the bureaucrats are still persistent.”
