Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): The Medical Teacher Association (MTA) and Junior Doctors Association (JUDA) in unison, protested the appointment of Dr Aruna Kumar as the Director of Medical Education (DME), at Hamidia Hospital on Saturday.

On Friday, doctors also wrote a letter to Chief Minister Mohan Yadav demanding cancellation of appointment of Dr Aruna Kumar. They feared that GMC’s atmosphere would turn as ‘toxic’ as it was during her previous tenure.

The protesters called on Deputy Chief Minister Rajendra Shukla over the same issue. They have given an ultimatum of 24 hours for cancellation of Dr Kumar’s appointment.

27-year-old pregnant woman committed suicide

Notably, Dr Kumar was the Dean of Gandhi Medical College as well as the HOD of the Gynecology Department in 2023.

However, she was removed from her post after an intense protest of MTA and JUDA over suicide of a pregnant PG student Dr Saraswati.

In August 2023, junior doctor of GMC Dr Saraswathi Choudhary–who was 14 weeks pregnant, ended her life by taking an overdose of Anesthesia injections and sedatives.

Despite that, she was recently appointed as the Director of Medical Education.

This prompted the members of the medical association to assemble at Hamida hospital and shout slogans against Dr Kumar and her appointment.

Dr Kumar has been in controversy due to her autocratic attitude, as alleged by the students at GMC, Bhopal. During her tenure as GMC Dean, even a thief had entered a girls hostel. After that,  adverse comments fueled protests of junior doctors.
