Ahead of Chennai Super Kings’ (CSK) upcoming IPL 2025 match against Rajasthan Royals (RR), MS Dhoni was given an incredible reception in Guwahati. The local crowd turned out in large numbers to catch a glimpse of the legendary wicketkeeper-batter, with fans holding up massive portraits of Dhoni.
The Chennai-based franchise touched down in Guwahati on the evening of Saturday, March 29, and the viral videos on social media captured the overwhelming fanfare. The excitement is completely justified, as this will be MS Dhoni’s first-ever IPL match in Guwahati. At nearly 44 years old, this could be one of the final chances for fans, not just in Guwahati but across the country, to witness their beloved “Thala” in action.
Royals look to end two match losing streak
Despite a disappointing performance in CSK’s recent 50-run loss to Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), where Dhoni scored 30 runs off 16 balls at a strike rate of 187.50, his milestone achievement did not go unnoticed. In that match, Dhoni hit three fours and two sixes but couldn’t guide his team to victory. However, he became CSK’s all-time highest run-scorer in IPL history, surpassing Suresh Raina with 4699 runs in 204 innings.
In the other corner, RR, led by Riyan Parag, has made a worse start to their campaign with back-to-back defeats against Sunrisers Hyderabad and Kolkata Knight Riders, with the latter defeat coming at the same venue as Sunday’s game. Sunday’s game promises to be a high voltage clash as both teams will be motivated to course correct their season
The match between Chennai Super Kings and Rajasthan Royals at Barsapara Cricket Stadium in Guwahati is scheduled to begin at 7:30 PM IST.
