Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): Madhya Pradesh Board of Secondary Education (MPBSE) has discontinued the option for class 12 students to change their subjects or faculty. Students can only apply for corrections to subject-related errors until December 31, with a fine of Rs 500 per subject.
According to latest guidelines, the board has implemented a two-year curriculum from class 11, mandating students to continue with the subjects or faculty they selected in class 11.
This decision eliminates the option to switch from challenging streams like Higher Mathematics to Commerce or Arts, a facility that was available until three years ago. The error correction process is online and school principals must upload the class 11 mark sheet of affected students along with a declaration on MP Online portal.
Amendments are valid only if the student studied the same subjects in class 11.
Discrepancies could lead to disciplinary action, including termination of affiliations for private schools or action against government school principals.
While the MPBSE has adopted much of CBSE’s syllabus from classes 9 to 12, it has not extended CBSE’s flexibility in subject choices. CBSE allows students to change subjects in class 12 for a fee of Rs 1k, a provision many students and parents in Madhya Pradesh are demanding.
