Gwalior (Madhya Pradesh): A spine-chilling murder was reported from Gwalior on Friday, where a man killed his wife at home, burned her body 50 kilometers away in Morena district, and then disposed of the ashes in Rajasthan’s Chambal River to erase all evidence, said the police.

The incident pertains to Thatipur area of Gwalior city. The matter came to light during a police investigation on the basis of the complaint of the deceased’s maternal family.

According to officials, the accused has been arrested, and further interrogation is ongoing.

Accused husband was addicted to alcohol

According to information, the accused was identified as Dinu Tagore, a resident of New Suresh Nagar. He lived in a government multi-storey apartment with his wife Chanchal Jatav, and worked at a private firm. He allegedly had frequent fights with his wife.

It is said that Dinu was addicted to alcohol and he often argued with Chanchal. On the night of December 31, an argument escalated after which Dinu killed Chanchal in a fit of rage.

Dinu filed the fake missing complaint

To cover up his crime, Dinu called an ambulance and pretended his wife was ill. Crying, he acted as if he was taking her to the hospital. Instead, he took her to his ancestral village in Morena and secretly burned her body.

Not satisfied with just burning the body, Dinu collected the ashes and threw them into Rajasthan’s Chambal River, in order to erase any trace of evidence.

Later, he returned to Gwalior and filed Chanchal’s missing complaint with Thatipur police station.

Deceased’s family suspected Dinu

However, Chanchal’s family grew suspicious when Dinu gave vague answers about her disappearance. They then approached the police. During interrogation, Dinu confessed to his crime under pressure.

The police, along with a search team, visited the spot on the Chambal River where Dinu claimed to have disposed of the ashes. Efforts are underway to recover any remains.

Dinu married Chanchal a few years ago. Their marriage was troubled due to Dinu’s drinking habits.
