Palghar, Maharashtra: Dr. Hemant Vishnu Savara, MP for the Palghar Lok Sabha constituency, has appealed to the Union Minister for Rural Development, Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Shivraj Chauhan for the immediate release of ₹26 crore in outstanding wages owed to unskilled labourers in Palghar district under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MGNREGA).
The funds, which amount to Rs 26,40,33,516, have been pending since May, causing significant financial strain on the labourers who rely heavily on this income for their livelihood. Dr. Savara met with the Union Minister for Rural Development, Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, Shivraj Chauhan, in person to raise the issue and stress the urgent need for these payments to be processed.
In his letter, Dr. Savara emphasised the importance of MGNREGA for unskilled rural laborers and stressed that the scheme’s purpose is being undermined by the payment delays. Given the large number of Palghar residents dependent on the scheme, he urged the central government to take swift action to disburse the funds and alleviate the workers’ financial distress. He also included a copy of a letter from the District Collector for reference.
