Sheopur (Madhya Pradesh): A video showing a junior engineer (JE) from the electricity department accepting a bribe has gone viral on social media on Tuesday. The video shows the man taking a bribe of ₹10,000 from local farmers in exchange for not reporting their illegal agricultural borewells connected to residential lines. The incident took place in MP’s Sheopur district.

In the video, the JE is seen discussing that if farmers opt for a receipt, the cost will increase to ₹14,000, and a case under Section 135 would be filed against them. Fearing legal consequences, the farmers paid the bribe, and one of them secretly recorded the transaction.

According to information, the JE visible in the video has been identified as Lakhan Malviya. Malviya is a junior engineer stationed in the Ragunathpur DC area of the Virpur tehsil in the Sheopur district. In the video that went viral on social media on Tuesday, a farmer is visible counting the notes before handing it over to Malviya. The farmer has been identified as Vinod Gusain. He alleged that despite submitting his file for an electricity connection, it was stalled until he paid a bribe. The JE threatened him with legal action unless he paid the demanded fee.

Gusain complied, and the incident was filmed by another farmer on his mobile phone. The video has gone viral on social media, and netizens are demanding suitable legal action against Malviya. There has been no response from Sheopur’s electricity department regarding the same.
