Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): Under fire from all quarters for his derogatory comment against Colonel Sofia Qureshi, Tribal Affairs Minister Kunwar Vijay Shah has issued a fresh public apology. He extended his apology to Colonel Sofia, Indian Army, and people of India.
In his statement, Shah said he was deeply hurt following the Pahalgam massacre and that he has always held immense respect for the nation and Indian Army. He admitted it was a language error that unintentionally hurt a community, religion and sentiments of countrymen.
“My intention was never to hurt any religion, caste or community. I sincerely apologise with folded hands to Indian Army, Colonel Sofia Qureshi and my fellow countrymen,” said Shah.
The controversial comment was made during a public programme, after which the Madhya Pradesh High Court took suo moto cognizance of the issue and directed the state police to file a case. When Shah approached Supreme Court, he was reprimanded for the obscene comment, and the court ordered formation of a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to probe the matter.
Since the incident, Shah has been absent from public events, including the recent cabinet committee meeting in Indore. The opposition is increasing pressure on the state government to remove him from the cabinet, but the BJP has not yet sought his resignation.
