The process of death of tigers continues in Madhya Pradesh. A tragic incident has once again come to light from the Kanha Tiger Reserve located in the ballast tola area of Mandla district. The body of a female tigress of about 18 months has been stirred up here. This tigress was roaming in residential areas for the last two days. As soon as the information was received, the forest department team reached the spot and recovered the body. Currently, the cause of the tigress’s death is being investigated.
Kanha Tiger Reserve is considered to be the pride of Madhya Pradesh, but in recent years the increasing number of tigers’ deaths has become a matter of concern. According to the Forest Department data, a total of 43 tigers died in 2021 and 2023 in Bandhavgarh Tiger Reserve and Shahdol forest circles of Madhya Pradesh, which is the highest number of ever. Earlier, 34 tigers were reported dead in 2022, 41 in 2021 and 46 in 2020. A total of 355 tigers have died in the state between 2012 and 2024, which is facing a serious challenge for wildlife conservation.
Earlier, tigress T-58 died.
According to the tiger census of 2024, the Kanha Tiger Reserve currently has 115 adult tigers and 30 cubs. But in the last two months, the persistent deaths of tigers have raised concern. Earlier on January 29, the body of a two -year -old female tigress was found in Parsatola area of Mukki Beat, whose investigation is still going on. At the same time, tigress T-58 was killed on 18 February at Raja Cachar of the Tongs Camp.
The cause of death has not been declared yet.
The cause of the tiger’s death – poaching, inter -caste conflict or disease – is not yet clear, but these incidents have definitely raised questions on the functioning and monitoring system of the forest department. Giving information about the case, DFO Rishibha Singh says that we are investigating the death of every tiger and will be concluded only on the basis of postmortem report. Many organizations including state level tiger force and regional tiger strike force, Forest Department, Special Tiger Force are also working on this to prevent the poaching of wildlife in Madhya Pradesh.
Need more concrete measures for tiger conservation
These teams work under the forest department. However, the number of tigers’ deaths is not decreasing. Now the question is, when will this series of tiger deaths stop? Is the wildlife conservation of the state limited to data only? People say that the time has come to take more concrete steps for the safety of tigers.
