Jabalpur (Madhya Pradesh): Following the Madhya Pradesh High Court’s question about the certification status of Kangana Ranaut’s film Emergency, Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) has revealed on Tuesday, that the film has only been assigned an online certificate serial number, with no formal certification issued yet.
In addition, the court has instructed the CBFC to address a petition seeking a ban on the film’s trailer. The Sikh community’s related petition has been resolved by the court, but a detailed verdict is still pending.
On Monday, the court had requested the Central government to clarify the certification status of the film.
The release of the movie, set against the backdrop of the 1984 emergency during then PM Indira Gandhi’s tenure, was postponed from its original date of September 6 due to controversies.
The High Court issued a notice earlier in response to a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) filed by the Jabalpur Sikh Sangat, which claims that the film portrays the Sikh community negatively.
The Sikh group’s petition, scheduled for hearing on Monday, aims to prevent the film’s release, arguing that it is not in the public interest. Senior advocate NS Ruprah, representing the Sikh org.zation, stated that the film could negatively impact societal sentiments.
