A potentially fatal accident was averted at Panvel railway station at around 10:30 AM on 30th January when motorman Mahendra Mhatre displayed quick thinking and presence of mind.
A local train was arriving from Thane to Panvel, and Motorman Mhatre was waiting to take charge of the train. At the same time, a passenger attempted to cross the railway tracks and climb over the iron grille to reach the platform.
However, due to a knee injury, he was unable to bend his leg properly, putting him at risk of being hit by the approaching train.
Sensing the danger, Mhatre quickly intervened and pulled the passenger to safety just in time. His swift action prevented a tragic accident and ensured the safety of the passenger.
Authorities have once again urged commuters to use footbridges and sub ways instead of endangering their lives by trespassing on railway tracks.
