Mumbai: Days after a newborn’s body was dumped in a trash bin at Mumbai Airport’s Terminal 2 (T2) restroom, the Sahar police identified a woman and her 16-year-old minor daughter as the suspects.

About The Case

The police said the girl was seven months pregnant and suffered a miscarriage at the airport, following which her mother disposed of the foetus. The authorities traced the duo to Ranchi and issued a notice after they returned to Mumbai. The minor had allegedly been raped by a man from Palghar, leading to her pregnancy. A case under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act has been filed against the accused, who is now under investigation.

Authorities reviewed airport CCTV footage, airline records, and passenger details to trace the suspects. The footage reviewed by police showed the duo entering a restroom, with the girl appearing visibly distressed. Upon their return to Mumbai on Saturday, the mother and daughter were brought to the police station and both admitted to the act.

Legal Notices Served

Legal notices have been served, and the minor’s medical examination corroborated the miscarriage. The infant’s body was discovered Tuesday evening by airport staff. The girl, a resident of north Mumbai, had reportedly been in a relationship with the accused man. The family’s trip to Ranchi was intended to attend a function, but the girl’s health crisis led to the tragic incident.
