Headache is a common problem, which is faced by millions of people. Around 10 million people in the UK are affected by severe headaches or migraines. While in most cases this is normal, in some cases it may be a sign of serious health problems, such as a brain tumor. Pediatrician Dr. Meghan Martin has shared important signs related to headache through social media, which can be dangerous to ignore.
Dr Martin told his 1.6 million Instagram followers that if the headache is worse in the morning, it could be a ‘red flag’. He warned that if headaches are occurring daily, it is a more serious concern. Additionally, persistent vomiting and nausea along with headache may indicate a ‘double red flag’. According to Dr. Martin, if the child is complaining of headache and vomiting as soon as he wakes up in the morning and this continues for a few days, then it could be a sign of brain tumor.
Causes of Headache Due to Brain Tumor
Brain tumor causes increased pressure in the brain, which affects the nerves and blood vessels. This causes headache. According to the Brain Tumor Charity, around 12,000 people are diagnosed with a brain tumor each year, including 500 children and young adults.
Other symptoms that require treatment:
- Fatigue: If fatigue persists for a long time and is accompanied by other symptoms.
- Problems hearing, seeing, or speaking: such as blurred vision, double vision, or abnormal eye movements.
- Loss of balance and strength: The child suddenly stumbles or is unable to stand properly.
- Personality changes: Sudden changes in the child’s temperament or mental health.
- Facial weakness or seizures: This can also be a sign of brain tumor.
When to contact a doctor?
According to Dr. Martin, if any of these symptoms appear, contact the doctor immediately. The brain can be examined through CT or MRI scans in the hospital.
