Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): Aiming to strengthen community policing for better communication with the people, Bhopal police will include more volunteers in New Year.
The volunteers or the police mitra will be honoured on Republic Day for their good work and helping police in maintaining law and order, police officials said.
At present, 5000 volunteers are registered as police mitra and members of Nagar Rakshak Committee.
The volunteers in different areas are registered at the concerned police stations and help police in keeping a watch on anti-social elements and suspects. Moreover, they assist the cops in ensuring peaceful conduct of festivals and religious programmes and processions.
Since the establishment of police commissionerate in Bhopal, police officials under community policing initiatives encouraged interaction and regular communication with the local residents and youths who are socially active in their areas. Police commissioner Harinarayanchari Mishra said new volunteers would be registered in New Year.
However, the names of inactive ones will be removed from the list of police mitra and Raksha Committees. Volunteers play a vital role in maintenance of law and order and controlling crimes. Focus will be laid on interacting and communicating with youths and socially active youngsters. Police commissioner Mishra further said that a yearly programme would soon be held for promoting community policing and interacting with the volunteers.
The volunteers will be honoured for their active participation and good worth on the occasion of Republic Day, he added.
