Mohanlal and Prithviraj Sukumaran starrer L2 Empuraan was released on Thursday. The film was one of the most awaited sequels in Mollywood, and it took a bumper opening at the box office. However, it has got embroiled in a controversy. A lot of people are calling Empuraan an anti-Hindu film, and right-wing groups are slamming the makers. Meanwhile, the Left wing groups and Congress factions are praising the makers for whatever they have shown in the movie. Now, the film’s writer, Murali Gopy, has spoken about the whole scenario.
While talking to PTI, Gopy said, “I will keep total silence on the controversy. Let them fight it out. Everyone has the right to interpret the film in their way. Let them interpret it. I will keep mum.” Further talking about the Left wing, he said, “The Left is non-existent now. They are there on the extreme right.”
L2 Empuraan Controversy
In the movie, there are scenes in reference to the 2002 Gujarat riots which took place when PM Narendra Modi was the Chief Minister of the state. A fan of Mohanlal in multiple tweets had revealed that the movie shows a Hindu man killing a child, and another Hindu man is shown raping a pregnant Muslim women. This has not gone down well with the right wing groups, and there’s a debate about it going on social media between the right and left wing groups.
Neither Prithviraj nor Mohanlal has given any statement on the controversy yet.
