In an effort to boost investment and ensure balanced growth across Maharashtra, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis stated that the state is providing a seamless ecosystem for investment. He emphasized that in the next five years, all regions of the state will witness balanced development.
CM Fadnavis made these remarks at the India Global Forum Next 25 event held at the Jio World Centre in Bandra Kurla Complex.
Fadnavis highlighted that the state is actively creating new opportunities for investments, particularly in global supply chains. He mentioned that Maharashtra is at the forefront in the field of Artificial Intelligence (AI), and numerous key global and national industries have their presence in the state. Furthermore, he assured that the state is focused on generating skilled human resources through skill universities, ensuring there will be no shortage of manpower for industries. The government is also promoting industries based on green and smart technologies.
Maharashtra is poised to contribute significantly to the goal of a three trillion-dollar economy, with the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR) playing a central role. CM Fadnavis revealed that MMR alone has the potential to generate a $1.5 trillion economy. As a result, the region is receiving focused attention from the state. Mumbai, being the fintech capital, is set to see further development, with Navi Mumbai being developed as the “third Mumbai.” He also shared that in Navi Mumbai, the city is in the process of establishing an “Educity” and an “Innovation City,” where the world’s largest university is expected to be built and five universities are nearing finalization.
Additionally, the new Navi Mumbai International Airport is set to commence operations soon, with enhanced connectivity to the area thanks to the Atal Setu bridge.
The state is also working on developing India’s largest port, which will be connected to the Samruddhi Mahamarg Expressway. This will play a crucial role in creating the “fourth Mumbai.”
While the focus on the MMR region remains strong, the state is also paying significant attention to rural areas. Pune is becoming a hub for the automobile industry, while Chhatrapati Sambhaji Nagar is emerging as an electric vehicle hub. Gadchiroli district is set to become a new steel hub, and the Vidarbha region is seeing a rise in solar power production. The Samruddhi Mahamarg will benefit farmers and entrepreneurs in 15 districts. Furthermore, the proposed Shaktipith Corridor will bring substantial benefits to Marathwada, with airport projects underway in Shirdi, Pune, and Nagpur.
For drought mitigation, the state is implementing river-linking projects worth nearly ₹3 lakh crore, along with canal-based water supply projects in Vidarbha.
CM Fadnavis also mentioned that 85% of the MoUs signed by the state government have been successfully implemented. The remaining 15% will soon be finalized, with special attention to ensuring industries receive all necessary facilities, land, and permits in a timely manner.
The Maharashtra government is committed to fast-tracking processes to ensure smooth implementation of all investment-related agreements, he concluded.
