In the state-level inter-collegiate/inter-university sports competition, the Vishwanath Sports Meet-2025 (VSM), the host ‘MIT Art, Design, and Technology University’ (MIT ADT University), Vishwarajbaug, Pune, delivered an outstanding performance, securing the championship title with a total of 14 gold and 18 silver medals. MIT WPU followed in second place with 11 gold and 6 silver medals, while Sir Parshuram College (S.P.) secured third place with 6 gold and 3 silver medals. MIT ADT University had also dominated last year’s championship.
The competition saw the participation of over 5000 students from 140+ educational institutions across 15 sports categories. The prize distribution ceremony was graced by notable dignitaries including Brigadier Dilip Patwardhan (Retd.), Maharashtra Government’s Assistant Sports Officer, and Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Awardee Sayali Tejas Shinde, Executive Director of the University Prof. Dr. Sunita Karad, Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. Rajesh S., Pro-Vice-Chancellor Dr. Ramchandra Pujeri, Registrar Dr. Mahesh Chopde, Prof. Padmakar Phad, Dr. Suraj Bhoyar, and other esteemed guests. Students were awarded cash prizes up to INR 10 lakh, medals, and trophies.
In badminton, the men’s final saw MIT WPU outplay MIT ADT with a 3-1 victory to secure the gold medal. In the women’s category, Vishwakarma Institute of Technology defeated Ajinkya D.Y. Patil University 2-0 to claim the gold. In chess, Ashish Sankalecha’s stellar performance led VIT Pune to victory over MIT WPU in the men’s category, while Riya Marathe guided MIT WPU to triumph over MIT ADT in the women’s category.
In the basketball finals, KBP Satara College defeated MIT WPU in the men’s category, while Warana University Kolhapur triumphed over MIT ADT in the women’s category to win the gold medal. In football, NDA Khadakwasla, led by Ishant Chitale, defeated Ness Wadia College, Pune, with Hitesh Yadav receiving the ‘Best Player’ award in the men’s category. In the women’s football final, MIT WPU outperformed MIT ADT with a 3-1 victory, and Bhagyashree Mukhare was named the ‘Best Player.’
In kabaddi, MIT ADT University defeated Bharati Vidyapeeth in the men’s category, while Vidya Pratishthan Baramati secured victory against MIT ADT in the women’s category. Saurabh Ranavare and Tejashree Choughule were declared the best players. In men’s kho-kho, Ganpatrao Kalbhor College overcame D.Y. Patil University, Akurdi, while in the women’s category, Vidya Pratishthan Baramati defeated D.Y. Patil Ambi, with Shreya Gosavi emerging as the best player of the tournament.
In tennis, NDA Khadakwasla and MIT WPU clinched titles in both the men’s and women’s categories. T.C. College Baramati and Modern College secured gold medals in volleyball. The MIT education group also dominated the water polo competition.
Ness Wadia College Clinches Cricket Trophy
The cricket competition was among the most thrilling, featuring 36 teams. Ness Wadia College emerged victorious, defeating D.Y. Patil University, Akurdi, in the final. Tilak Jadhav (259 runs) was honored with the ‘Player of the Series’ award. In women’s cricket, MIT ADT University triumphed over MIT SOFA to win the championship.
MIT Boat Club Dominates Rowing Events
At the MIT University Boat Club, the indoor rowing competition saw Yogesh Borale and Sakshi Dhamale winning gold in the men’s and women’s single scull events, respectively. In the double scull category, Aniket Kolte and Yashraj Gaikwad secured gold with a record time. MIT ADT Boat Club also maintained dominance in the 4E (500m) category.
The success of the Vishwanath Sports Meet-2025 not only showcased the sporting prowess of the participants but also demonstrated the spirit of competition and sportsmanship that continues to thrive in Pune’s educational institutions.
