Madhya Pradesh Political Punch: Ministers Butt Heads, Officers Ruling, Digging Own Grave, Smart Act & More | FP Cartoon

Ministers Butt Heads

Two ministers have butted heads. There are similarities between the departments the ministers are heading, and both are experts in backhand deals. This is the reason why they have locked horns over the share of carrots. A large number of suppliers are associated with both the departments. One of the departments has allotted a budget to districts. When the other minister came to know of it, he became active and told the officers to hand over the supply-related work to his supporters. This sparked a spat between the close aides of both the ministers whose purpose was to allot the work to be done through the budget in their respective districts to their supporters. The officers in both the departments are facing problems because of the dispute between the two ministers. If they follow the orders of one minister, the other gets angry with them. A few suppliers are trying to end the dispute between the duo.

Officers Ruling

The officers have the upper hand over the ministers in the state capital. An IAS officer was absent from the meeting of an in-charge minister. The officer’s absence enraged the minister so much that he said he would act against the bureaucrat. A long time has passed since the incident took place, but the minister has failed to act against the officer. Now, the legislator is giving explanations for his failure to discipline the officer. A female IAS officer is also waywardly behaving. She does not listen to the minister and legislators and barely takes the calls of many politicians. At a meeting, a censor motion was passed against her, and now, those politicians are waiting for her removal from the department she is working for.  Nevertheless, the higher-ups in the government have not given any assurance to those politicians whether she would be removed or not. In the state capital, there are many officers who hardly listen to politicians, but they are unable to act against these errant bureaucrats.

Digging Own Grave

A politician, who has lost the assembly election, does not want to remain idle. He knows if he does not have any work in the BJP now, his role in the ruling party will become irrelevant after four years. So, this former minister is trying to get some work either in the government or in the organisation. He wants to get a position either in a corporation or in a board. The former minister has already put up his plea before an important leader in the state BJP that he should be given some work, but several leaders in the ruling dispensation are against it. Despite his defeat in the election, there is a tussle over this leader in the party. The leader whom he had met could not give him any assurance about whether he would be able to give him any important role in the party. He has, in fact, been told that it will not be easy for him to get any position in the party. In the constituency, there are talks about this leader, now disappointed after losing the election, that he has dug his own grave.

Smart Act

A minister is flamboyant enough, but the officials of his department do not listen to him. Recently, in the constituency of a woman legislator of the ruling party, there was some work related to the minister’s department. She spoke to him about it. The work was important as well as just, but the officials were hardly paying attention to it. When the minister’s repeated pleas fell on the officers’ deaf ears, he found a way out, and advised the legislator to raise in the House the issue related to her constituency. When the legislator raised the issue in the House, the minister directed the officials to work according to the legislator’s wishes. Now that the officers assured the minister of doing the work, they cannot avoid it on some pretext or the other. Because of the minister’s smartness, the legislator got the work of her constituency done. The officers who were trying to dodge the work are now feeling letdown.

Bid To End Bickering

FP Cartoon

A leader of the Congress had to act as a coordinator between two senior members of the party. The supporters of the two politicians were showing their strength at a demonstration organised by the party. One of the leaders even put up his big pictures on a hoarding. On the other hand, the photographs of the important leaders, they put on the hoardings, were small. Accordingly, the supporters of the other leader, too, began to put his big photographs on the hoardings and banners. The Congress workers are facing difficulties because of the one-upmanship between these two leaders. If they are found with one leader, the other gets angry. To end such a contest between the duo, another leader spoke to them. But the leader, who tried to mediate between the two, is junior to them. He often meets both of them and makes all efforts to end the wrangling. He is making efforts to bring both of them to one platform so that they work for the party.

Minister In London

Debates during the winter session of Madhya Pradesh assembly remained stormy as long as the House functioned, but the real spirit of democracy prevailed on the floor. The Opposition used every opportunity to pull up the government. The ruling party advised all its ministers and legislators to remain present in the House. But a woman minister of the ruling dispensation was absent from the House, for she was enjoying her trip to London. As the ruling dispensation was facing opposition onslaught in the House, the female legislator was busy posting her London tour photographs on social media. Such photographs caused heartburn to her cabinet colleagues who, though, did not make any remark about her absence from the House.
