Mira Bhayandar: The Mira Bhayandar Municipal Corporation (MBMC) has introduced two suction-cum-jetting machines (recyclers) to clean sewer lines and sewage tanks in the twin-city ahead of the monsoon season.
Local legislator and state transport minister- Pratap Sarnaik inaugurated the two trucks mounted with the machines in the presence of municipal commissioner- Sanjay Katkar and additional municipal commissioner- Aniket Manorkar in Bhayandar on Monday afternoon.
A combination of a high-pressure sewer jetting operation, a suction operation system armed with a blowback system, the machines are not only equipped with a mechanism which can clean choked drainage, sewer lines and suck sludge from chambers but can also separate water and silt to facilitate recycling.
“The machines will not only end manual cleaning which has witnessed casualties on various occasions, but will be useful in maintaining a hygienic atmosphere. Based on the request placed by the civic administration for adding four more machines in the existing fleet, I will follow-up with the concerned department to honour their request and ensure that more machines are made available.” said Sarnaik.
The machines have been procured on the virtue of funds provided by the state and central government authorities. Currently the MBMC’s sanitation department charges Rs 800 to clear clogged pipes, manholes and other sewer systems with the help of outdated suction machines.
However, an upward revision in the pricing structure on the usage of the newly procured machines is on the anvil, indicated civic officials. The new recycler machine can clean storm water drains of more than 10 metres deep and suck objects of up to 125 mm including- wet and dry silt, garbage and also construction materials.
