The question about West Ham United forward Michail Antonio’s return has started to do rounds after the Jamaican international underwent surgery on a lower limb fracture he suffered during a road traffic collision on Saturday. As per the report by Guardian, Antonio is expected to be out for at least a year or may even retire due to injury, though it is still unclear at this stage.

West Ham released a statement confirming Antonio had surgery for a lower limb fracture. The club expressed gratitude for the support from the football community and thanked the emergency services and medical staff who helped Antonio after the crash. They also wished him a speedy recovery and promised to provide updates as needed.

Michail Antonio’s first words after horror car crash 

A dog walker who helped Michail Antonio during the car crash has revealed the first word spoken by the footballer. Samuel Woods a local who had been walking his dog explained The Sun about the scene that he found when pulling over to check on what he initially thought was an abandoned vehicle

He said, “I said to him ‘hello’ to see if anyone was alive. I heard sirens and told him that help was on its way. He was so disorientated. He said, ‘Where am I? What’s going on? What car am I in?’ The paramedics got there really fast. I couldn’t believe what happened. The car smelt of petrol.”

Woods went on to say: “I looked at him and thought, ‘He’s in big trouble’. I just said, ‘You’ve had an accident’. He didn’t reply. He was looking around trying to make sense of what I just said. He was sitting in the passenger side.”

Michail Antonio’s career

Antonio, who joined West Ham from Nottingham Forest in 2015, has been a key player for the club, scoring 83 goals in 323 appearances. He was part of the team that won the Europa Conference League in 2023.
