Final Chance for MHADA Applicants: Third Hearing Scheduled for Transit Tenement Eligibility | File Photo
Mumbai: The Committee formed by the Mumbai Building Repairs and Reconstruction Board of MHADA to determine the eligibility of 11 applicants for the allocation of transit tenements, had organized a second hearing on March 6, 2025. However, only two out of the 11 applicants were physically present. In the interest of natural justice, the committee has decided to provide the applicants with a final opportunity.
Accordingly, the third hearing for the applicants will take place on March 21, 2025, and all applicants are urged to attend in person with the necessary documents as specified in the rule book by the board.
During the second hearing on March 6, only two applicants namely Varsha Mitbawkar and Maan Gulab Singh were present, but they failed to submit any documents regarding their eligibility before the committee.
The first hearing in this matter was held on Thursday, February 27, 2025, but no applicants attended. A notice regarding the hearing was prepared by the committee and was sent via registered post to the addresses provided by the applicants. However, due to incomplete addresses mentioned in the submitted documents, the postal service was unable to deliver the notices.
To ensure the applicants received the notices, the committee assigned board employees to personally deliver them to the given addresses, but the applicants could not be found at those locations. Since it was crucial for the 11 applicants to receive the hearing notices, the committee published advertisements in various newspapers listing the names of the concerned applicants, urging them to attend.
Meanwhile, prior to first hearing, only one out of the 11 applicants personally visited the MHADA office to collect the hearing notice. However, no applicants attended the first hearing.
Since all 11 applicants were absent from the first hearing, it was necessary to verify their identities and the authenticity of their submitted documents in their presence before the committee. To uphold natural justice, MHADA Vice President & CEO Sanjeev Jaiswal has directed the three-member committee, chaired by the Deputy Chief Engineer of the Mumbai Building Repairs and Reconstruction Board, to hold a third and final hearing, allowing the 11 applicants one last chance to present their case.
Following a review of the submitted documents, the committee will finalize eligibility and submit a detailed report regarding the allocation of transit tenements. Since the committee has been established, the report will be available soon, and an appropriate decision regarding the allocation will be made only after confirming the eligibility of the 11 applicants.
