Indore (Madhya Pradesh): Dr .l Tripathi, a renowned plastic surgeon in the UK and an alumnus of the 1973 batch of MGM Medical College, appealed to Chief Minister Mohan Yadav to restore the historic KEM School building and to develop it as a medical museum. Dr Tripathi met the CM during the latter’s visit to the UK.
Dr Tripathi, representing the MGM Alumni in the UK and as a founding member of Friends of MP, presented a memorandum urging the government to declare the 150-year-old KEM Medical School as a heritage building and restore it to its former glory. Dr Tripathi reiterated his earlier appeal made during the Pravasi Bharatiya Divas 2023, emphasising the school’s historic significance and the need to preserve it for future generations. He proposed establishing Madhya Pradesh’s first medical museum on the premises to inspire young doctors and nurses, contributing to the nation’s health sector.
In addition to advocating for its restoration, Dr Tripathi condemned the controversial Halloween party held in the historic building, describing it as disrespectful to its legacy. “It was the fourth medical school in the country and is a milestone in the medical education history. The building must be restored and we the alumni are ready to raise funds for the same and even to take up the responsibility of the building as well,” Dr Tripathi told Free Press.
He assured the Chief Minister that MGM alumni and supporters are willing to raise funds if the government requires assistance for the restoration. Meanwhile, Yadav acknowledged the concerns and assured that the matter would be reviewed, reflecting a positive step toward preserving the state’s medical and cultural heritage.
