Mexican naval ship collision from Brooklyn Bridge: People stuck on masts, see dreadful scene

On Saturday night, a Mexican naval training ship collided with Brooklyn Bridge with 200 people, causing panic on the roads and started a search and rescue operation in the East River. The ship is said to have collided with the bridge around 9 pm, Arm Kuatemok, when a huge 147-foot mast on the ship hit the bottom of the famous bridge. According to preliminary reports from The New York Post and The Mirror, the authorities have described the collision as a collective accident, in which many people have been injured and the condition of at least two is critical.

Casualties and emergency reactions

Emergency teams were immediately sent to the area and the victims are now being brought to the Brooklyn Navy Yard. The seriously injured people are being taken to nearest hospitals for treatment. The officials have not officially stated the total number of injured.

The Steel-Patwar, a steel-husband-related long ship, was traveling south at the East River at the time of the Kuatemok incident, related to the Mexican Navy. The purpose of being there and the path that he reached under the bridge is still under investigation.

About the vessel

ARM Kuuthemok, launched in 1982 and built in Bilbao, Spain, is a sail training ship employed by the Mexican Navy to train cadets in sailor skills and navigation. This ship is famous for its international goodwill trips and participation in marine festivals worldwide.

Bridge damage and investigation

Officials are now evaluating the strength of the structure of Brooklyn Bridge. The main road has not yet suffered any damage, although the entire limit of the impact of the collision on the lower decks and sea routes of the bridge is still being assessed.

The accident was compared to the Baltimore Bridge collapse in March 2024, colliding with a cargo ship Francis Scott Bridge, killing six maintenance staff and the 1.6 mile -long bridge collapsed. The investigation is being done by the American Coast Guard, Emergency responders of New York City and officials of the Mexican Consulate.
