New Delhi: Twitter is threatening legal action against Meta Platforms over its new Threads platform, Semaphore reported on Thursday, citing a letter sent by Twitter lawyer Alex Spiro to original Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg. Spiro wrote in the letter that Twitter intends to vigorously enforce its intellectual property rights and demanded that Meta take immediate steps to stop using any Twitter trade secrets or other highly confidential information.

Meta launched Meta Threads on Wednesday as the social media firm looks to take over Elon Musk’s Twitter by taking advantage of Instagram’s billions of users. Meta and Spiro haven’t commented yet.

Meanwhile, analysts have said that Threads’ association with Instagram could give it a wilder user base and advertising tool. It could take advertising dollars out of Twitter at a time when its new CEO is trying to revive its struggling business.
While Threads has been launched as a standalone app. Users can log in using their Instagram credentials and follow the same accounts, making it an easy fit into existing habits for Instagram’s more than 2 billion monthly active users.
Threads are called ‘Twitter-killers’
Danny Hewson, head of financial analysis at investment firm AJ Bell, said investors can’t help but get a little excited by the prospect that Meta really does have a ‘Twitter-killer. Others saw the introduction of Threads as an opportunity to create a less toxic version of Twitter. Ocasio-Cortez said in her post that the platform will have good feelings, strong community, good humor and less harassment.
