New Delhi, 19 November (HS). Social media company Meta on Tuesday said it does not agree with the Competition Commission of India’s (CCI) decision to impose a fine of Rs 213.14 crore on it. The company said it plans to appeal against it.
A Meta spokesperson said in the statement that the company plans to appeal the CCI decision. He said the update was both optional and transparent. Meta has announced its intention to challenge the Competition Commission of India’s Rs 213.14 crore fine on it over alleged anti-competitive practices related to WhatsApp’s 2021 privacy policy update.
The Competition Commission of India on Monday imposed a fine of Rs 213.14 crore on social media company Meta. This fine was imposed for adopting unfair business practices in connection with the privacy policy update of WhatsApp in 2021. CCI asked WhatsApp not to share user data with other applications owned by Meta for advertising purposes for a period of five years.
