Indore (Madhya Pradesh): Indore, which had emerged as the BJP’s strongest stronghold in the country after the assembly elections-2013 and general elections-2024, after excessive brainstorming finally saw appointments of saffron party’s city and district presidents in Sumit Mishra and Shravan Chavda respectively.
While Mishra a protégé of Indore-2 MLA Ramesh Mendola — who is a loyalist of BJP heavyweight Kailash Vijayvargiya, had the last laugh, Chavda managed to become president on the backing from the organisation.
Though Mishra belongs to Vijayvargiya’s camp still his appointment is not seen as a victory of the senior leader who was reportedly batting for Deepak Jain Tinu and outgoing district president Chintu Verma.
So what actually has happened in Indore is complex for many to understand as they could not take it as a victory or defeat of Vijayvargiya’s camp in these postings. Unfolding the past, the Vijayvargiya camp was divided over the names recommended for city and district president posts.
Mishra’s name was recommended by leaders from Indore-1, Indore-2 and Indore-3, Jain had backing from Indore-1 and Indore-3.
There were many candidates in the fray initially but eventually, Mishra and Jain were the only ones left in the race. After much brainstorming, the party chose Mishra over Jain.
On the other hand, Vijayvargiya could not get his staunch supporter Verma to get re-appointed as the district president. Verma had got the responsibility about two years ago. It was believed that Verma could be repeated again but the organisation pushed for Chavda’s name. Vijayvarigya had to agree to his name at last after which the appointment was made. In the last assembly elections, the BJP had won all nine seats in Indore district and ensured that the Congress candidate withdrew his nomination on the final day during the general elections.
Will live up to party’s expectations: Mishra
After his appointment, Mishra said the party and senior leaders have shown a lot of faith in me. I will live up to their expectations, he said. “BJP’s roots are very strong in Indore because senior leaders have nurtured it with their hard work. During my tenure, I will further strengthen BJP in Indore,” he added.
