New Delhi : One of the enemies of the country, Tahwwur Rana has been extradited to India and judicial action is going on against him. Meanwhile, another fugitive enemy of India has been arrested and will soon be extradited to India. Mehul Choksi, who defrauded India for about Rs 15,000 crore, has been arrested by the Belgium Police. The arrest was made at the request of the Indian investigating agency CBI. This has raised hopes among Indian citizens that other enemies of the country terrorists and fugitives will also be caught soon.

The Government of India is constantly making efforts to extradite terrorists and fugitive traitors and these efforts are seen to be successful. In December last year, the government requested the extradition of 178 such terrorists and traitors from various countries. Of these, 23 have been extradited.

13 thousand crore scam with nephew

Mehul Chok is a diamond merchant. He is the owner of the Gitanjali group, with more than 4,000 stores. Choksi, along with her nephew Neer Modi, did a big scam in Punjab National Bank. Both are accused of cheating more than Rs 14 crore from the bank. Both of them were absconding by the Government of India. Preparations for Choksi’s extradition are currently underway. However, no clue of nephew Nirav Modi has been found yet.

The investigating agency has been trying to arrest Choksi for a long time.

Meanwhile, Mehul Choksi said in response to a notice sent by a Mumbai court that he had blood cancer and cannot come to India due to radiation therapy. Since then the investigating agencies have been trying to arrest Choksi. The ED was monitoring his foreign properties. Accordingly, the assets located in countries like Thailand, Japan and America were asked to transfer to India. The ED said that this will help the victims to get their money back.

India absconded in 2018

Choksi gained citizenship of Antigua in 2017 and fled from India after the scam in 2018. After this, PNB started an investigation against Choksi in a scam of Rs 15,000 crore. In 2018, Interpol issued a red corner notice against Choksi. Mehul Choksi escaped from Antigua in 2021 and settled in Dominica. Later in 2025 it was reported that he was in Belgium.

Choksi will be brought to India through legal strategy

For the past few days, he was living in Belgium with his wife Preeti. His wife is a Belgian citizen and he easily obtained citizenship. Meanwhile, Indian investigative agencies requested the Belgian government to arrest them. Choksi is currently preparing to get bail by citing illness. In such a situation, it is difficult for the Government of India to bring them back to the country. Due to this, the investigating agencies are preparing to go to Belgium for the next hearing of the case of Choksi. A legal strategy is being prepared to ensure that Mehul Choksi is in custody and its extradition process starts soon.
