Medicover Hospital, Navi Mumbai, has launched a robotic system for knee and hip replacement surgeries. The MISSO robotic system aims to improve surgical precision, reduce pain, and speed up recovery for patients with knee and hip conditions.

The hospital conducted its first robotic total knee replacement surgery on a 76-year-old woman with severe knee arthritis. The patient was able to walk within two hours of surgery, demonstrating the system’s efficiency and recovery benefits.

“Knee and hip-related issues are affecting people of various age groups due to sedentary lifestyles, obesity, arthritis, and injuries. Medicover Hospital has introduced robotic-assisted surgeries to offer greater accuracy, fewer complications, and a quicker return to daily activities,” said Dr. Deepak Gautam, Director of Orthopedics at Medicover Hospital. He added, “We are seeing more cases of knee and hip-related problems across all age groups. Traditional surgeries require longer recovery periods. The MISSO robotic system provides greater accuracy, shorter hospital stays, reduced blood loss, and a lower risk of infections. Around 10%-20% of patients with severe pain require knee and hip replacements, while 2%-3% may need revision surgeries.”

Dr. Nikhil, Consultant Orthopedic Surgeon at Medicover Hospital, emphasized the benefits for Navi Mumbai residents, stating, “This technology will help patients by providing robotic-assisted surgery. With shorter hospital stays, patients can resume daily activities sooner and experience less pain and improved mobility.”

Explaining the cutting-edge features of the robotic system, Dr. Mataprasad Gupta, Centre Head of Medicover Hospital, said, “The MISSO Ortho Surgical Robot uses 3D imaging to enhance precision, preserve soft tissues, and improve implant positioning and post-surgical mobility. This system is expected to reduce complications and speed up recovery.”
