Sheikh Hasina: Former Prime Minister of Bangladesh Sheikh Hasina has been accused of impeachment. Hasina claimed that a conspiracy was hatched to kill me and my younger sister Sheikh Rehana. He said this in an audio speech posted on the Facebook page of Bangladesh Awami League Party on Friday night. Sheikh Hasina said, ‘Rehana and I could barely escape. Our lives were saved by just a difference of 20-25 minutes. It is noteworthy that in the month of August last year, there was a big movement led by students. After months of protests and violence, Sheikh Hasina, then Prime Minister of Bangladesh, was ousted. More than 600 people died in the violence during this period.
76 year old Sheikh Hasina fled from Bangladesh and came to India. An interim government was formed in Bangladesh under the leadership of Nobel laureate Mohammad Yunus. Recalling the old days, Sheikh Hasina said, ‘Many times conspiracies were hatched to kill me. I think, surviving the killings of August 21 or surviving the bomb in Kotlipara and being alive on August 5, 2024… it was all by the will of Allah. The hand of Allah must have been on me. Otherwise I wouldn’t have been able to escape this time! You must have seen how they conspired to kill me. But it is by the grace of Allah that I am alive. Allah wants me to do something else. However, I am a victim. I am living without my country and without my home. Everything got burnt.’
Which conspiracy did Sheikh Hasina mention?
It is noteworthy that on August 21, 2024, a grenade exploded at an anti-terrorism rally organized by Awami League on Bangabandhu Avenue. 24 people died and more than 500 were injured due to its collapse. The blast occurred at 5:22 pm when then opposition leader Sheikh Hasina was addressing a crowd of 20,000 people from the back of a truck. Haseena was also injured in this blast. Similarly, the Kotlipara bomb blast was also a conspiracy to kill Sheikh Hasina. Which he has mentioned in the audio message. It was July 21, 2000, when a 76 kg bomb was found. Then a 40 kg bomb was recovered from Sheikh Lutfor Rahman Ideal College of Kotlipara. Awami League president and then opposition leader Sheikh Hasina was scheduled to address a rally here on 22 July 2000.
