The Mira-Bhayandar-Vasai Virar (MBVV) police have received 15 complaints against the 48-year-old ticket checking inspector and his female accomplice for duping them to the tune of more than Rs. 39.50 lakh by floating bogus investment schemes.

The accused who has been identified as- Kishore Khedkar (48) is already cooling his heels in jail after he was arrested by the Kashigaon police in August this year on charges of sexually assaulting his 31-year-old female accomplice on multiple occasions for more than a year.  It is alleged that Khedkar also involved the woman (who levelled charges of rape against him) in his shady business.

The present FIR was registered at the Bhayandar police station against Khedkar under the relevant sections of the Bhartiya Nyay Sanhita (BNS) for cheating and criminal breach of trust on Saturday. Employed as a ticket checking inspector on a contractual basis in the public transport authority of the Mira Bhayandar Municipal Corporation (MBMC), Khedkar lured his potential targets including relatives and colleagues into availing loans by misusing their know your customer (KYC) documents, bank statements and also credit cards to buy expensive mobile phones with an assurance of 10 percent returns on their invested amount. He also promised to pay the equated monthly instalments (EMI) on time.

However, Khedkar allegedly sold the phones in cash to other stores at cheaper rates, leaving the investors in lurch. The cheated investors who neither received their investment, nor profits instead started receiving demand notices from concerned banks for bounced EMI’s, following which they approached the Bhayandar police station in August.

After recording statements and cross verifying the bank statements and other documents, an offence was registered against Khedkar. Interestingly, all the purchases were made from a well-known electronic store. Further investigations were underway.
