MBVV Police nab 48-year-old serial thief involved in vehicle break-ins across multiple cities | Representational Image

Mira-Bhayandar: The crime branch unit (Zone I) attached to the Mira Bhayandar-Vasai Virar (MBVV) police have arrested a 48-year-old man with a history of thefts by smashing window panes of vehicles.

The accused who has been identified as- Vinod Ashok Pawar, a resident of Cuffe Parade in Mumbai would particularly target unguarded vehicles parked on the streets that had valuable items and electronic gadgets.

Pawar had stolen valuables including a lap-top and camera-collectively worth Rs 39,500 by breaking into a car parked in the Vinay Nagar area of Kashigaon on 6, February. The onus of conducting investigations was handed over to the crime branch unit led by police inspector- Pramod Badhaakh.

Based on the inputs provided by informers, the team learnt about Pawar’s involvement in the crime and arrested him on Tuesday (1, March). Investigations revealed Pawar’s involvement in around 20 similar offences committed by him in Mumbai, Thane, Navi Mumbai and Pune using a similar modus operandi.

An offence under the relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita has been registered at the Kashigaon police station against the accused who has been remanded to custody. Further investigations were underway.
