Mira Bhayandar: In a welcome news for personnel and officials working in various civic departments, the Mira Bhayandar Municipal Corporation (MBMC) has decided to allot flats to staffers which are in its possession and lying vacant on a rental basis.
An official notification issued by city engineer-Deepak Khambit on Tuesday has listed seven flats measuring 286 square feet to 585 square feet in three housing complexes in Mira Road and Rai Village (Bhayandar) which have been made available for staffers working in the MBMC.
The aspiring home-seekers will have to submit an application to the estate management department which will allot the flats on a first come first serve rental basis. The revenue generated from the rent can be used for the upkeep of properties, officials said.
Apart from other housing and resettlement schemes, most of the flats have been procured from the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) under the Rental Housing Scheme (RHS) which is in accordance with the affordable housing policy adopted by the state government.
Thousands of units in around 13 major housing complexes located in Mira Road and Kashimira are to be made available by private construction companies’ which are being built under the aegis of the MMRDA.
While more than 1,153 flats have already been handed over to the MBMC out of which several have been occupied to accommodate beneficiaries of rehabilitation schemes as some are lying vacant.
