Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders Ltd (MDL), a Navratna DPSU, commenced the production activity for Multi-Purpose Vessel (MPV)–Yard 21001 for Navi Merchants Denmark on 24 Sep 2024.

In another milestone achievement, the Keel Laying Ceremony of the first ship of the project was held at MDL’s South Yard on 02 April 2025. Biju George, CMD MDL presided over the Keel Laying function in the presence of Peter Bertelsen, Technical Director, Navi Merchants along with senior officials from the Classification Society (DNV) and MDL.

As per the contract signed between MDL and M/s Navi Merchant, MDL will design, build and deliver Six Multi-Purpose Vessels. The contract price of each vessel is approximately $14m.

The overall length of the vessel is 116.2m with dead weight 7500T. The vessel will be capable of attaining the speed of not less than 11.0 knots with shaft generator power take off of about 85 kW. The vessel will be built under survey and certification with rules of Det Norske Veritas (DNV) classification society.

The vessel is scheduled for delivery in Apr 2026. Today’s Keel laying ceremony marks a significant milestone in the construction of the series of vessels by MDL.
