Maulana Arshad Madani, president of Jamiat Ulema-e-Hind, has made serious allegations against the government about the Waqf law. He said that this law is becoming a medium to snatch the rights of Muslims. Madni says that Waqf is a subject related to religious matters of Muslims, so only Muslim society can handle it. He objected to the inclusion of non-Muslim members in the Waqf Committee and described it as unfair.
Madani thanked the leaders of the opposition who are opposing this law. He said that if not today, then tomorrow Muslims will definitely get their rights. Along with this, he also said that the government should have given the Ministry of Waqf to a Muslim leader.
President approves Waqf Amendment Bill
President Draupadi Murmu has approved the Waqf (Amendment) Bill, 2025. The bill was passed after a long debate in both houses of Parliament. Several petitions against this law have been filed in the Supreme Court, including the petition of the Sunni Muslim organization ‘All Kerala Jamiat-ul Ulema’ in Kerala.
Jamiat challenged in Supreme Court
Jamiat Ulema-e-Hind has challenged this amended law in the Supreme Court, calling it a direct attack on the Constitution of India. The institution says that this Act not only disrupts the religious freedom of Muslims, but also violates equal rights given by the Constitution.
In a press release, Jamiat said that this law is a dangerous conspiracy to end the religious freedom of Muslims. The state units of the organization are also petitions against this law in the High Courts of their respective states.
Madani’s interim petition
Maulana Arshad Madani has not only challenged the provisions of this law, but has also filed an interim petition in the Supreme Court to prevent it from being implemented. At the same time, ‘All Kerala Jamiat-ul Ulema’ has said in its petition that this amendment will weaken the religious nature of Waqf and also damage the democratic process in the administration of Waqf boards.
Impact on rights of religious freedom
The petition argued that this law directly interferes with the right to manage matters related to religion, which has protection under Article 26 of the Constitution.
Objections of political and social leaders
Congress MP Mohammad Javed, AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi and Aam Aadmi Party MLA Amanatullah Khan have also filed petitions in the Supreme Court challenging the validity of this law. Apart from this, a non-governmental organization called ‘Association for the Protection of Civil Rights’ has also launched a legal battle against the bill.
